I’ve been photographing geisha for two decades since first arriving in Japan. By fortune a Japanese man took me under his wing and introduced me to the geisha world and I fell in love with all the beauty and the colours of the kimono and learned to appreciate those women who have dedicated their lives to the arts. My work is from the unique perspectives I have; a client, foreign male, fellow practitioner and patron of the arts, customer, and friend. The images show that the women I photograph feel comfortable arouind me and my camera.
As an artist I want to employ the sensibilities of all the Japanese arts that I have studied to create truly unique pieces. So I think of myself as more of a multimedia artist than just a photographer. I have exhibited all around Japan and my pieces can be seen in private collections around the world.
